Raga Kaushika Dhwani, also known as Bhinna Shadaj or Bhinna Shadja, evokes the essence of springtime with its melodic phrases resembling the rustling of leaves and the melodious chirping of birds. The rendition of this raga is usually presented with the vibrant and refreshing spirit of the spring season.

It’s worth mentioning that Raga Kaushika Dhwani is one of the few ragas that bear the legacy names derived from the historical Jati-Murchhana system of Indian classical music. This system gave rise to various jatis, which are the predecessors of modern-day ragas. Bhinna Shadaj is a notable name among them.

The question of whether Raga Kaushika Dhwani and Bhinna Shadaj described by Sarang Dev, the revered musicologist in his treatise Sangeet Ratnakar, are the same or different is a topic that deserves further exploration.
