Artist - Joydeep Ghosh

Joydeep, one of the youngest disciples of Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra, was raised in a family deeply passionate about music. His journey into Indian Classical Music began at the tender age of four, under the guidance of Pandit Anil Roy Chowdhury, a senior disciple of Radhika Mohan. As Joydeep matured, both in skill and understanding, Roy Chowdhury introduced him to Pt. Maitra, marking the beginning of his formal training.

Under the tutelage of Pt. Maitra, Joydeep flourished as a musician, often performing alongside the maestro himself. Following Pt. Maitra’s passing, Joydeep sought further learning from renowned masters like Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta and Pt. Bimalendu Mukherjee, enriching his expertise in the Sitar and Surbahar of the Imdadkhani Gharana.

Joydeep’s musical journey extended beyond string instruments, encompassing Tabla training under esteemed teachers like Pandit Amal Sarkar, Ustad Shaukat Ali Khan, and Anil Palit. He also delved into vocal music under Pt. Amaresh Chandra Chaudhury’s guidance, rounding out his classical music education comprehensively.

His dedication and talent earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious National Talent Search Scholarship from the Government of India. In 1978, he clinched the first prize in the Instrumental category of the All India Radio Music competition, showcasing his exceptional skill. His academic achievements include earning a ‘Sangeet Praveen’ (M. Mus) diploma from Prayag Sangeet Samiti with top honors and Gold Medals in multiple disciplines.

Joydeep’s performances have graced major music conferences across India, including the esteemed Sangeet Natak Academy Music Festival and the Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Memorial concert. His international tours across Europe, enchanting audiences in various countries, highlight his global recognition as a maestro.

Joydeep serves as a senior lecturer in Sarod at the prestigious Indira Kala Sangeet University, imparting his knowledge and passion to future generations of musicians in Madhya Pradesh. After his tenure, he returned to Kolkata, West Bengal.
